Waiting Game

There hasnt been much going on lately here in Kuwait. 3-29 officially left a few days ago and 1-68 has slowly been leaving as well. The way they have these flights scheduled really does not have much of a method to their madness but rather just luck of the draw. I know we are at least scheduled to fly out on the 19th so we are just playing the waiting game until that date comes around.

Last night we actually had a concert here. The Zac Brown Band kicked off their USO tour here in Kuwait and are headed up to play at all the big FOBs in Iraq soon. That was a lot of fun because it was a part of the outside world that is natural to all of us and they came here to bring us a piece of America. I had only heard a few of their songs before the concert but they were really good in both the country and rock music that they played. They did a rendition of "The Devil Goes Down to Georgia" that was awesome and I really like that song so that was neat. It was just a great treat.

Other than that my days have mostly been dedicated to going to the gym, playing volleyball, watching movies or tv shows, and sleeping. Throw in going to the cafeteria to eat and thats daily life. Tomorrow we are going to do some drivers and orientation training on the MRAP and that will be followed by volleyball. I have decided that if their is no court set up already in Basra, my PLT and I will build one. Ill use the gift cards I got from people to buy the net and poles and balls off amazon and create an awesome competitive arena. It good because it works teamwork and allows people to take their agression and frustration out athletically rather than in other ways.

We are all itching to get out of here and move on to start doing what we came here to do in Iraq. I met the COL that I will be responsible for protecting and he seems like a very likable and down to earth kind of guy which will mesh very well with my platoon and our personalities. A few more days and I will finally be in country!

  1. Guess what - The Devil Went Down to Georgia is one of my favorite songs too! That's great that there was a concert. Music is good for the soul. And so is volleyball - you just wouldn't want me on your team! We all love you!

  3. Hey Aaron,
I am so jealous that you got to see them! I bet you have a nice tan from your volleyball games and that would be awesome to build a court! Put your handy skills to use. I am happy that you are spending your time well and excited to get to Basra, you are the best. I love you very much and miss you.
    Love,
    Abby xoxo

  4. Hi Aaron, I am glad the devil went down to Georgia. He grew up in the Jersey Pine Barrens and is better off down South. The concert sounds great! Your idea of building a volleyball court is terrific; please let us know what athletic facilities you find when you arrive. We hope your border crossing goes smoothly and safely. Love, Dad

  5. Tati, did you know how much I love that song and that your great-great grandfather was a very famous violinst (fiddler) in Austria before WWI? We all appreciate how much the USO provides for all of our soldiers and ask everyone to support it. We would be happy to send whatever athletic equipment you desire, once you tell us where to send it. Once again you are so generous to want to use gifts to you for the benefit of your men. What a guy! PS - I thought you would be driving equipment "in country" - when did flying become an option?
    Love always, Mom

  6. Hi LBB,

Are you still scheduled for the 19th? It sounds like you are mostly feeling better from being sick, and are finding some ways to pass the time until you can go to Iraq. Do you need new movies yet? I am very glad to hear that you got good vibes from the COL and think he'll work well with your team. Building the volleyball court sounds great. When was the last time you played before Kuwait?

    I love you!

Sounds like it has been a whirlwind of hurry up & wait.

Sorry to hear that you were not feeling well. I know the first couple of weeks I was in viet Nam I felt pretty crappy. The HEAT, bad food, crappy water all play havoc with your insides. Hang in there it will get better _ Uncle John

Your parents did a great job of hosting Passover, you were sorely missed. Abby & I had a long conversation (once Perri allowed me access to her)I enjoyed getting to know her better. - Aunt Elaine

Just know we love you, miss you and admire you.
